MONIKA VYKOUKAL born 1976 in Vienna, Austria, moved to Aberdeen to become curator at Peacock visual arts in November 2004.

I have worked as an attendant, intern, in archives, on catalogues, on exhibitions, for galleries, curators, magazines and other types of organisations back in Vienna and in some other places, freelance with more and less odd large and small jobs on the side. My background is rather theoretical with degrees in Art History and Museum Studies. For both of those I managed to research graffiti writing. I am still interested in that. Trying to think about what drives me, it is the potential for good political art and good politics, whatever that can be. I have many constantly changing obsessions: currently those include the Industrial Workers of the World, old polyester quilted housecoats, and the rebranding of Aberdeen.
